Spain and Portugal – Paths of Faith

    1° day ARRIVAL

    Arrival in Madrid. Transfer to a hotel, check-in, dinner.

    2° day MADRID

    In the morning, after breakfast, we participate in the Holy Mass. Then we go to the city center to visit the Old Town. We start from Puerta del Sol, a favourite meeting place of habitants, there is a symbol of the city – a monument of a brown bear. From here the Spanish people measure every distance in their country, it is the Madrid’s heart. After that we walk to Plaza Mayor to see a previous city center, then the Imperial Palace, the cathedral. .

    Dinner and overnight,

    3° day ZARGOZA

    We go to Zaragoza to visit a wonderful Basilica of Our Lady of Pilar. The Blessed Mother from Zaragoza is the patron of Spain and the revelation was there. The God’s Mother came to cheer and inspire of a hope Saint James the Apostle, who preached the gospel in this area. The Holy Mass, dinner and come back to our hotel.

    4° day CATALONIA

    After breakfast transfer to Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia. It is the second largest city in Spain, which astonishes a multitude of monuments and an unusual atmosphere. During our stay in the city we can see St. Eulalia’s Cathedral (the Holy Mass) and a Gothic District. Then the most famous street – La Rambla. There is Church Sagrada Familia in the plan designed by Antonio Gaudi – master architect, and houses built by his project: Casa Mila and Casa Batlo, too. After that we reach the top of Montjuic, where we can admire a complex of Olympics buildings. Dinner and overnight.

    5° day MONTSERRAT

    This day we spend in Montserrat. Montserrat is a holy place for the Catalonians. The Sanctuary of Black Madonna, known as Moreneta is located on the hills, so during a visit we can enjoy beautiful views. The main point is meeting Madonna and Jesus, who are waiting for pilgrims in the main attar in the church. Then the Holy Mass. We can also see a museum, walk along hills and meditate intently. Dinner and overnight.

    6° day CARCASSONNE - LOURDES

    Today we visit Carcassonne. In this small city we can see the largest in Europe complex of medieval buildings. There are a castle, a church, walls, which remember the Middle Ages. Then we go to Lourdes to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.

    7° day LOURDES

    The all-day-stay in the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes. We visit the most important places connected with St. Bernadette, e.g. The St. Peter’s Church, where she was baptised, a prison cell “Le Cachot”, where she lived with her poor family, a mill Boly. Then we go to the Grotto of Massabielle, where Blessed Mother revealed to Bernadette 18 times, where a miraculous spring is located. In the afternoon we take part in  Way of the Cross.

    Than we come back to the hotel, dinner.

    8° day LOYOLA - BURGOS

    From Lourdes we go to the Sanctuary of Loyola. It is a birthplace of founder the Society of Jesus - St. Ignatius of Loyola. We visit the Basilica and a house of St. Ignatius. Our next stop will be in Burgos, the city on the St. James's Path. Our guide show a wonderful gothic Cathedral of Our Lady of Burgos, which has been declared as UNESCO World Heritage Site.

    Dinner and overnight.

    9° day LEON

    Firstly, we visit the Santa María de la Regla Cathedral in Leon. It is the gothic building with two different towers, similar to French cathedrals in Paris or Chartres. There are 125 windows with wonderful stained glass and thanks to them we can enjoy amazing colorful lights inside. Then we walk through the Old Town. After leaving Leon we go to O’Cebreiro – next place on the St. James's Path. This is a small village with a very rich heritage. The village is home to traditional mountain dwellings of pre-Roman origin, called ‘pallozas’. These homes, typical of the area, can only be found in this region of Galicia.

    Transfer to Santiago de Compostela. Dinner and overnight.

    10° day SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA

    This day we spend in Santiago de Compostela. In the Middle Ages, alongside Rome and Jerusalem, it was the most important place of pilgrimage. We visit the Cathedral, where there are relics of St. James, the Apostle, the famous Pórtico da Gloria and the door opened only in Jubilee Year. In the evening transfer to the hotel in Fatima, dinner.

    11° day FATIMA

    Fatima. Today, we go the way of the cross to Homes of the Little Shepherds in Aljuster. Shopping in a wholesale of souvenirs and a degustation of a famous “Porto” wine. After coming back a time for an individual prayer, a visit the Chapel of Apparitions, the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima with graves of Francisco, Lucia and Jacinta. After a dinner we can participate in a Rosary and a torchlight procession.

    12° day SANTAREM - LISBON

    We spend a while in Santarém. It is a city of Eucharistic miravle, which took place in XIII century. Then we go to Lizbona. We start our visiting from a district Belem. We see Torre de Belem, a wonderful tower located on the banks of Tag. Then, Belém's most notable modern feature - Monument to the Discoveries - built for the Portuguese World Fair in 1940. We can also see the church in the complex of St. Jerome Oratory’s buildings. There is a grave of Vasco da Gama. Then, we walk to the Rossio Square and the old district – Alfama. Here we visit the St. Anthony’s Church, which is built in place, where in old times,  a family house of city’s patron existed. To admire a beauty view of city we go to São Jorge Castle.

    Transfer to a hotel, dinner.

    13° day DEPARTURE

    Departure to US.
